Last week was a conference that left me totally burned out by the end of each day。 So I caught up on Murderbot。 The first four books are novellas, then there's an interstitial short story and then a full length novel。 I recommend reading them in order at least the first time through。 After using #1 for paint it Black, I'm putting #2 and #3 together for one Halloween Bingo square, and then #4 and #4。5 for one, and then #5 on its ownPersonal copyRead for Creepy Crawlies using Wild Card for Martha Last week was a conference that left me totally burned out by the end of each day。 So I caught up on Murderbot。 The first four books are novellas, then there's an interstitial short story and then a full length novel。 I recommend reading them in order at least the first time through。 After using #1 for paint it Black, I'm putting #2 and #3 together for one Halloween Bingo square, and then #4 and #4。5 for one, and then #5 on its ownPersonal copyRead for Creepy Crawlies using Wild Card for Martha Wells 。。。more

Yeah just squash my heart like a tomato, why won't you。 Every novella so far in this series has been delightful, Murderbot is a lovable and capable and anxious dork(affectionate)。 This was more action packed than the other two, or it at least felt that way with it taking place in an enclosed space filled with Giant Murder Contraptions, and it somehow also manages to be fun and joyful and the ending is gutwrenchingly bittersweet Yeah just squash my heart like a tomato, why won't you。 Every novella so far in this series has been delightful, Murderbot is a lovable and capable and anxious dork(affectionate)。 This was more action packed than the other two, or it at least felt that way with it taking place in an enclosed space filled with Giant Murder Contraptions, and it somehow also manages to be fun and joyful and the ending is gutwrenchingly bittersweet 。。。more

Another excellent entry in the Murderbot series, consistently delivering everything the series is good at。 I love the direction the overall arc is heading。

Sooo funny!! And also… kind of sad this time around, but I like the character development Murderbot is going through。 May not be perfect but I enjoyed it so much! The audiobook narration makes me laugh out loud。

3 short novella's and I am already in love with this character。 Each adventure has been a small contained story that stands on its own, but connects very cohesively with an overarching narrative。 So much fun! 3 short novella's and I am already in love with this character。 Each adventure has been a small contained story that stands on its own, but connects very cohesively with an overarching narrative。 So much fun! 。。。more

Oof。。。what a disappointment。 Book 1 was a 3 star read due to a lack of sufficient character development that resulted from the action-based plotline taking over the second half of the book。 Book 2 was a massive improvement with Murderbot being paired with ART and their dynamic introducing humor and the chance for Murderbot to learn and grow。 The author attempted to do the same thing in this book by pairing up Murderbot with Miki, but I felt it didn't work in this case。I felt the main problem is Oof。。。what a disappointment。 Book 1 was a 3 star read due to a lack of sufficient character development that resulted from the action-based plotline taking over the second half of the book。 Book 2 was a massive improvement with Murderbot being paired with ART and their dynamic introducing humor and the chance for Murderbot to learn and grow。 The author attempted to do the same thing in this book by pairing up Murderbot with Miki, but I felt it didn't work in this case。I felt the main problem is that Miki is too naive and child-like。 The problem with Murderbot since Book 1 has been that his anti-social behavior and traumatic past means he doesn't go out of his way to change or form bonds with others。 Basically, character development doesn't happen with Murderbot unless he's pushed to grow。 ART has a completely different background from Murderbot but ART's experience, personality and maturity made Murderbot accept ART as an equal; a true friend who he bonded with and felt at ease with。 ART is the type of friend who could encourage growth and change in Murderbot because Murderbot trusts ART。 Unfortunately, his relationship with Miki is completely different。 Whereas ART was a best friend or even an older brother at times, Miki is the much younger sister。 Murderbot couldn't let down his guard around Miki because Miki's naive and submissive personality resulted in her being somebody he had to protect, not somebody who he could be himself with。 For that reason, I felt Murderbot once again didn't undergo a lot of character development in this installment。 It wasn't helped that there was once again an ensemble cast of humans and that the action-based plotline stretched throughout most of the story。 。。。more

This is the third book in the Murderbot series, and it follows on from the previous stories in terms of plot and characters。 There is a worldbuilding element in this series that is very interesting: a future populated by sentient beings who exist on a continuum between humans and machines。 One of the most interesting aspects to the novels is the way distinctions are made in terms of trust, rights and social standing between humans, augmented humans, semi-biological constructs, and non-biological This is the third book in the Murderbot series, and it follows on from the previous stories in terms of plot and characters。 There is a worldbuilding element in this series that is very interesting: a future populated by sentient beings who exist on a continuum between humans and machines。 One of the most interesting aspects to the novels is the way distinctions are made in terms of trust, rights and social standing between humans, augmented humans, semi-biological constructs, and non-biological systems with different levels of complexity and awareness。Apart from the interesting philosophical questions that the book raises, I like the simple writing style and the engaging narratives。 I have to say, in 'Rogue Protocol,' Miki, the pet robot, completely steals the show :) 。。。more

Fast-paced, fun and tender。 This is a great installment in the series - my favorite yet。 This world and the humanity it continues just continues to expand。

I promise one of these days I’ll finish one of the 5 (6?) nonfiction books I’m 3/4 through, but until then, there is MurderBot。

3。5 starsI really wish I liked this more, since I loved book 2, but this felt like a repeat of book one and the problems I had with it。 I found it confusing and difficult to follow, and I had trouble picturing things in my mind。 It felt like the author was just trying to include too much in a short span。One of the main issues I have with this is that there's too many characters, especially human characters that don't get fleshed out。 I guess it's a purposeful choice to keep the characterization 3。5 starsI really wish I liked this more, since I loved book 2, but this felt like a repeat of book one and the problems I had with it。 I found it confusing and difficult to follow, and I had trouble picturing things in my mind。 It felt like the author was just trying to include too much in a short span。One of the main issues I have with this is that there's too many characters, especially human characters that don't get fleshed out。 I guess it's a purposeful choice to keep the characterization of the humans to a minimum since this is a story told through Murderbot's eyes, but I still think there are too many。 The only one who stood out to me in this was Abene, I guess because of Miki, but the others I had no idea who they were and I couldn't really remember who was who。 They basically felt like generic cardboard cutouts, and that would be fine if there was only a couple of them, but there was at least 5, which felt unnecessary。I found the plot a bit hard to follow because so much was going on, and it felt repetitive because it was similar to that of the first book。 I did start getting into it after 90 pages, but it felt like a long time because the book is so short。 I will still continue with the series in the hopes that there's another gem like book 2, but I was disappointed in this。 I had thought this could be a 5 star read。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 Murderbot is just such a funny and entertaining character。 It's mostly the reactions to things other people/bots say or do that get me。 I find myself chuckling a lot when I read these。 The plot in this one was good too (better than #2 I'd say), and left off heading in a good direction。 4。5 stars。 Murderbot is just such a funny and entertaining character。 It's mostly the reactions to things other people/bots say or do that get me。 I find myself chuckling a lot when I read these。 The plot in this one was good too (better than #2 I'd say), and left off heading in a good direction。 。。。more

Oiy! This one started a little slower than the previous Murderbot adventures but ultimately ended up being much more of an emotional roller-coaster than earlier stories。 There's the same sarcastic humor I've come to love and expect from Murderbot's memoirs, the same danger and excitement, but oh no。。。 what are these other feelings I'm being forced to feel as Murderbot wraps up the harrowing tale? Since leaving off the last book, Artificial Condition, Murderbot discovers that Dr。 Mensah is having a few legal difficulties, and with Murderbot's fledgling, tiny bit of a conscience, it feels the need to go off to dig up some evidence against the evil GrayCris Corporation in order to help Dr。 Mensah, who still seems to have a lot of explaining to do as to where Murderbot's disappeared to。And in order to get that evidence you just know it's going to be total violent mayhem and destruction。G Since leaving off the last book, Artificial Condition, Murderbot discovers that Dr。 Mensah is having a few legal difficulties, and with Murderbot's fledgling, tiny bit of a conscience, it feels the need to go off to dig up some evidence against the evil GrayCris Corporation in order to help Dr。 Mensah, who still seems to have a lot of explaining to do as to where Murderbot's disappeared to。And in order to get that evidence you just know it's going to be total violent mayhem and destruction。Great stuff from beginning to end, superb writing with not a word wasted。And now it's onward unto Exit Strategy。 。。。more

(4/5 Stars)My favorite of the three Murderbot novellas I’ve read thus far。 Wells’ writing has improved since the first novella and there is an incredible charm that is starting to shine through。 Looking forward to reading the next novella; these stories make for perfect palate cleanser reads。

As tiny as this book is, it still took me a bit of time to get "into" it - at first I felt like we've been here before, but soon I became much more engaged and liked the book a lot by the end。 Like a good TV series, these books stand alone but each points towards an overarching goal/narrative。 Definitely am eager to see where the next book takes us。。。 As tiny as this book is, it still took me a bit of time to get "into" it - at first I felt like we've been here before, but soon I became much more engaged and liked the book a lot by the end。 Like a good TV series, these books stand alone but each points towards an overarching goal/narrative。 Definitely am eager to see where the next book takes us。。。 。。。more

Martha Wells=comedic genius, even better wrapped in a hard crunchy shell of scifi, singularity, and dramatic cliff hangers。

More Murderbot fun! Murderbot first finds itself with some downtime to consume some media。 Then it decides to look for some useful information to help the humans it has started to find interesting。 Of course with all the snarky attitude we've come to enjoy!
